#NonAgricultural: latest news from Brussels

The protection of non-agricultural GIs at the EU level was debated last week in Brussels at a workshop on the contribution of non-agricultural geographically-rooted products to regional inclusive economic development.

This initiative, organised by the DG GROW (Directorate general Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs) of the European Commission has been an opportunity for oriGIn to reiterate its views on the need to establish a community system for non-agricultural GIs simple and transparent. Such system should recognize the link with the territory of production as an essential element and should not create confusion with the existing European GIs systems. oriGIn was represented at the meeting by Ida Puzone (Project Manager), Susan Thomas (Savile Row Bespoke Association), Ana Soeiro (Qualifica/oriGIn Portugal), Giuseppe Olmeti (Associazione Italiana Cittá della Ceramica – AiCC) and Davide Servadei (Confartigianato), who was one of the speakers (See the program) .

Following the workshop, oriGIn had a meeting with Slawomir Tokarski, Director of Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing of DG GROW .
