#originUS: oriGIn adds a U.S.-based representative to its team
On 9 March, Ivan Butina – an expert on strategic communication and communities of practice – was appointed as oriGIn U.S.-based representative. This move represents the first step towards establishing an oriGIn permanent presence in the U.S.
At a crucial time for the future of the GIs in the U.S., Ivan will:
– Represent oriGIn in Washington DC before the U.S. authorities dealing with GIs and related issues, in particular the Department of Agriculture, the Trade Representative and the Patent and Trademark Office;
– Run a campaign on GIs and sustainable development aimed at policymakers, the media, and the public at large;
– Put interested oriGIn members in touch with American specialized media for interviews;
– Help oriGIn organize initiatives (press conferences, seminars, GI tastings, etc.) in Washington DC during the two rounds of negotiations of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) scheduled in the U.S. in 2015 (likely in April and September).
oriGIn encourages all its members (both American and non-American) to benefit from the opportunity of having an oriGIn U.S.-based representative. This is a unique opportunity to convey our messages to the relevant national authorities in a coherent way. So please do not hesitate to get in touch with Ivan (ivan@origin-gi.com), together with our main office in Geneva, to coordinate our efforts.
