In December 2011, the CTA and oriGIn published the “Practical Manual on Geographical Indications for ACP countries”.
This publication was launched at an event on GIs in Africa organized by the French Mission to the WTO and “l’Organisation de la Francophonie” within the framework of the 8th WTO Ministerial Conference:
– Program
The manual aims to serve as a practical tool to assist interested stakeholders (mainly producers and policy-makers) in ACP countries to grasp the GI scheme. Intended to be understood by non-specialists, the manual explores the key issues concerning GIs, from the most important definitions to the legal options available to protect GIs and the operational aspects of setting-up sustainable GIs.
