At the beginning of September, the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) signed a General Protocol for Action with the Spanish Civil Guard to further the protection of Scotch Whisky in Spain, a relevant export market for our GI. As with all GIs it is important to ensure that the special recognition enjoyed across our extensive export markets is maintained and enforced. The SWA has been working with enforcement authorities across the EU and beyond for many decades. This agreement with the Spanish authorities formalises that work in Spain and we look forward to work with them.
