From 24 to 28 October 2016, a “GIs week” was held in Vientiane (Lao PDR), organized by the Department of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Lao PDR, in cooperation with various partners, including oriGIn and the FAO-AFD Regional Project on the promotion of Rural Development through the development of Geographical Indications at Regional level in Asia.
In particular, during the “GIs week”, the following initiatives took place:
- A Workshop to launch the new Lao PDR Geographical Indications system (25 October);
- A Regional Seminar on the Promotion of GIs (26 and 27 October);
- An International GIs exhibition and business match-making (26, 27 and 28 October).
Ms Fatima AMHERI, President of Association Marocaine de l’indication Géographique de l’Huile d’Argane (AMIGHA) and President of oriGIn, delivered a presentation in the “Regional Seminar on the Promotion of Geographical Indications: promoting the origin, quality and local wisdom”.
