On March 20, Oman joined the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement. Oman will be able to protect national Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications – such as ‘Omani frankincense’ (essential oil), ‘Al-Jabali goats’ and ‘al-Saidi dagger’ – under the treaty. The Geneva Act is designed to help producers of quality goods linked to their origin and national competent authorities protect distinctive designations in multiple jurisdictions, through a single application filed with WIPO and the payment of one set of fees.
With the accession of Oman, the Geneva Act will cover 33 jurisdictions.
