17/12/2024-Save the date! oriGIn Biennial Meeting 2025: Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, 8-10 October

We are delighted to announce that oriGIn 2025 Biennial Meeting will take place in the vibrant city of Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico from 8 to 10 October 2025.

This event will be hosted by “Casa de Artesanias de Ocampo”, with the support of the State of Michoacán. The region, rich in culture and immersed in ancestral traditions, already has two recognized GIs for crafts: Cobre Martillado de Santa Clara del Cobre (hammered copper) and Catrinas de Barro de Capula (clay figurines). Likewise, Michoacán has exceptional richness in agricultural and food products, offering immense potential for rural development and the recognition of GIs, such as “Cotija” cheese. The State is also part of the geographical area of three prestigious spirits appellations of origin: Charanda, Mezcal, and Tequila.

The event will be held at the Morelia Convention and Exhibition Center (Avenida Ventura Puente without number, Colonia Félix Ireta CP 58070, Morelia, Michoacán).

Please note the agenda in your calendars:

  • 8 October: oriGIn Statutory General Assembly.
  • 9 October: International Conference on Geographical Indications.
  • 10 October: Field visits: Cobre Martillado de Santa Clara del Cobre and Catrinas de Barro de Capula.

Additionally, a geographical indications exhibition will be held during the event, with space available for oriGIn members interested in participating.

The Biennial Meeting will provide an ideal platform to discuss key issues for GIs, with a particular focus on the development craft GIs as well as strengthening GI groups in the Latin American region.

Stay tuned—more information will be shared soon!
