31/05/2024-Strategy to transform America’s food system with a greater focus on more resilient local and regional food production

In May, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has allocated $300 million to 66 American organizations through the Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP) to promote American food and farm exports in high-potential markets. Launched in October 2023, the RAPP is part of the USDA strategy to transform America’s food system with a greater focus, among others, on more resilient local and regional food production, fairer markets for all producers, ensuring access to safe, healthy and nutritious food in all communities, building new markets and streams of income for farmers and producers using climate-smart food and forestry practices. Looking at the funds’ beneficiaries, it is interesting to note that several associations represent potential American distinctive geographical names, benefiting already from marketing orders and/or geographical certification marks
