The WIPO Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications continues to generate interest and attract contracting Parties.
Over the last six months, the following countries acceded to the treaty:
- The Russian Federation (11 May). It entered into force with respect to the country on 11 August.
- Sao Tome and Principe (2 August). It entered into force with respect to the country on 2 November.
- Senegal (5 September). It will enter into force with respect to the country on 5 December. On the relations between the OAPI and its Member States with respect to the Geneva Act, see here.
- Portugal (18 October). It will enter into force with respect to the country on 18 January 2024. On the relations between the EU and its Member States which were part of the Lisbon Agreement at the moment of the EU accession to the Geneva Act, see here.
As a result, the Geneva Act now covers 21 Contracting Parties and 57 jurisdictions.
