On April 6, the Government of Cape Verde deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement, which now covers 36 jurisdictions. The Geneva Act will enter into force for the country on 6 July 2022.
The accession will allow Cape Verdean producers to obtain the international protection of national appellations of origin and geographical indications (for instance “Cha das Caldeiras – Vinho do Fogo”, a wine produced on the slopes of the volcano “Pico do Fogo”), quickly and easily, by filing a single application with WIPO and paying a single set of fees.
