On February 4, Brazil’s National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI) announced the publication of the new version of its GI Manual. The first edition of this manual was published in May 2021 with the objective of increasing the quality, transparency and uniformity of GI examination practices in Brazil, serving as a reference for examiners, producers and users in general.
The new version of the manual is available (in Portuguese).
These changes follow the publication of Orders INPI/PR n° 4/2022 and INPI/PR nº 06/2022 of 12 January 2022 , which modified the conditions for registration and the receipt and processing of geographical indication applications in Brazil.
