On 15 June in the framework of the WIPO Working Group on the Development of the Lisbon System oriGIn and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) organized a meeting on the Worldwide GIs compilation.
The meeting (see here the full program) took place from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. CET (Geneva time). It was followed in person (for the participants of the WIPO Working Group on the Development of the Lisbon System), as well online via zoom.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the oriGIn worldwide compilation as a reliable source of information which can facilitate the work of trademark examiners in national IP offices in relation to their international obligations. Launched in 2017, the compilation counts today with more than 9,000 GIs registered in national jurisdictions. Since 1 March 2022, the Swiss IPI refers to oriGIn worldwide GIs compilation to impose limitations on trademarks containing a GI protected in its country of origin, but not benefiting from a specific title of protection in Switzerland (direct registration or international agreement).
