On 3 May oriGIn and the Africa Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation Project (AfrIPI) organized the online event: “Geographical Indications in Africa: Launch of AfrIPI’s manual”. Among the speakers, the representatives of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI). For more information see:
– The speakers’ presentations:
- Ms. Monique Bagal, GI long-term expert, AfrIPI Project
- Mr. Luis Fernando Samper, Sustainability Manager, oriGIn
- Mr. Massimo Vittori, Managing Director, oriGIn
The webinar was the opportunity to present the Manual for Geographical Indications in Africa recently published by AfrIPI, with the contribution of oriGIn. By analyzing the progress so far made in the field of GIs in Africa as well as the remaining challenges to address (mainly concerning the establishment of groups and control systems), the manual offers local and international stakeholders a practical tool to assist in the implementation of the Continental Strategy for Geographical Indications in Africa (2018-2023), as well as contribute to the sustainable development of African communities.
