05/12/2013 – Seminar on the socio-economic potential and challenges for non-agricultural Geographical Indications (GIs)

oriGIn, with the support of the State of Geneva, organized a seminar on the socio-economic potential and challenges for non-agricultural Geographical Indications (GIs), at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The seminar, which will followed the meeting of the WIPO Working Group on the reform of the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and their International Registration, addressed two main topics: on the one hand, the economic potential and opportunities for adding value to traditional knowledge of non-agricultural GIs. On the other hand, the problems of the growing misappropriations of non-agricultural GIs and the need for harmonization of national legislations.
